What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.

Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.

Job Summary

PAM Health is a national healthcare organization with Long Term Acute Care Hospitals (LTACHs) and Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities (IRF). PAM Health is opening its third IRF in Delaware in Milford. The facility is scheduled to open late September 2024. Cardinal Health is PAM Health's exclusive partner to manage the Pharmacy Departments for its facilities.

Cardinal Health is recruiting a highly motivated manager for this new facility, PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sussex located in Milford, DE. The manager will assume the role of PIC for the application for the DE BOP License and will be an integral part of the final build and preparation for opening. The manager will build their in house team which will include a technician serving as the role of the buyer and PRN support staff to cover PTOs.

The Pharmacy's hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Remote Pharmacy Services are provided by Cardinal when the pharmacy is closed. The manager is responsible for On-Call coverage, which can include your PRN staff. The current DE PAM IRF pharmacy work in close partnership with each other including sharing PRN staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries and dispatch of medicines.

  • Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting.

  • Implements process and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expenses controls.

  • Manages day to day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals.

  • In the absence of medicines, communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and also makes and/or supervises preparation of interveinal drugs.

  • Maintains pharmacist’s certifications and maintenance of database privileges and access controls to medical records.

  • Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist.

  • Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.

  • Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.

  • Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.

  • Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross-functional groups.

  • Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business.

  • Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in pharmacy or PharmD.

  • Must be in “good standing” with the Delaware board of pharmacy and/or eligible for licensure in the state of Delaware.

  • Management experience preferred.

  • Inpatient/hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

  • IV experience preferred.

  • Ability to see, hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and health care professionals.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Computer savvy to learn and perform successful operation of multiple pharmacy information systems.

  • Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation.

  • Customer/vendor credentialing is required (this may include vaccinations). More details will be provided during if you are selected for an interview.

Anticipated salary range: $108,300 - $162,395.
