What Packaging Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

Packaging Engineering is responsible for designing, developing and testing a wide variety of equipment and packaging used for protection, display and handling of products. Determines packaging specifications, cost limitations, legal requirements and related documentation. Directs external resources / contractors as required.

The Senior Packaging engineer is responsible for conducting assessments on the current state of packaging validation studies andpackaging system design for various medical devices within the medical segment portfolio,in accordance to applicable industry standards and regulations.

Accountabilities:

  • Generate and execute effective remediation plans
  • Develop and qualify innovative packaging designs
  • Process validation, and creating reports and documentation while assuring compliance to all applicable quality and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Science or other Engineering discipline preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of combined experience in Packaging Engineering or Quality Engineering for medical devices is preferred
  • Working knowledge of packaging industry standards and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Experience in Six-sigma, Lean Manufacturing is preferred

What is expected of you and others at this level

  • Lead and support Quality and Regulatory remediation projects; including creation and execution of effective remediation plans
  • Perform packaging gap analysis in accordance with ISO 11607 Part 1 and Part 2 requirements
  • Create reports, procedures, and other documentation while assuring compliance to all applicable quality and regulatory requirements
  • Packaging development and qualification of innovative package designs as part of a cross functional new product development, sustaining engineering and quality remediation teams
  • Identify, lead and support packaging cost optimization or process improvements opportunities; qualifying alternate packaging materials, process improvements, and packaging design optimization
  • Assist new packaging equipment procurement process; generating user requirement specifications, factory acceptance test and validation of new packaging equipment
  • Applies working knowledge in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks
  • Works on projects of moderate scope and complexity
  • Identifies possible solutions to a variety of technical problems and takes actions to resolve
  • Applies judgment within defined parameters
