What Commercial Transaction contributes to Cardinal Health

Legal provides the company with strategic, proactive, practical and cost-effective legal advice and services in order to protect the organization's assets, operations and image. This function provides legal counsel related to commercial, corporate securities, intellectual property, labor and employment, and regulatory law, among other areas. This function also litigates all company legal matters, manages outside counsel and manages legal operations.

Commercial Transaction provides legal advice, counsel and services to domestic and international businesses in support of customer, vendor, supplier, and strategic relationships, including drafting and negotiating contracts, participating in and providing input on business strategy, and otherwise acting as primary day-to-day legal contacts for business clients.

Job Summary

We are currently looking to fill a Senior Legal Counsel role for the Cardinal Health at-Home Solutions (“AHS”) business, a $2.6B revenue leading home healthcare medical supplies provider serving people with chronic and serious health conditions in the United States.

The AHS business unit is a high-growth, market-leading provider of medical supplies to people in their homes comprised of three complementary business units: (1) Edgepark Medical Supplies, a leading mail order supply company that specializes in serving patients with chronic conditions, (2) Cardinal Health at-Home, a direct-to-home medical supplies distributor, and (3) Velocare, a supply chain network and last-mile fulfillment solution capable of quickly reaching patients with critical products and services required for hospital-level care at home. As Senior Counsel, you will report directly to the Vice President, Legal, supporting the AHS business.

Responsibilities

  • Providing sound, practical judgment in the interpretation and application of relevant laws and regulations, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Beneficiary Inducement Statute, Medicare/Medicaid, False Claims Act, Stark Law, HIPAA and state health information privacy laws, and marketing and advertising laws applicable to the marketing and promotion of medical products

  • Demonstrating strong business acumen and ability to draft and negotiate contracts in accordance with good commercial and healthcare regulatory standards. Strong preference for candidates with prior experience handling managed care contracts, customer contract, supplier contracts, and other complex agreements

  • Identifying legal and compliance issues and business risks and escalating appropriately

  • Understanding complex legal, compliance and business situations and discerning relevant versus non-relevant facts and information

  • Effectively communicating with all levels of the Cardinal Health organization and ability to provide business clients with clear and precise guidance on business, compliance, and legal risks

  • Identifying and collaborating with subject matter experts from other departments, including the Legal, Regulatory, Quality, Privacy, and Compliance teams

  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies

  • Developing and conducting legal training for business clients

  • Working under the general supervision of senior attorneys and exercising sound judgment as to matters that require attention of Legal and Compliance Departments’ senior leadership

  • Promoting and ensuring compliance with Cardinal Health’s Business Code of Conduct, as well as other company policies and procedures

  • Proactively developing and maintaining legal knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up to date on current regulations, cases, trends, and best practices

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree

  • License to practice law in Ohio or active bar license in another state

  • Candidates with at least 5 years of experience preferred. Preferably in a nationally recognized law firm, including at least 3 years of commercial contracting experience in the healthcare industry

  • Knowledge of healthcare laws and industry is strongly preferred

Anticipated salary range: $119,800-$171,100
